Taj Offers Customized Culinary Journeys Along Spice Route

-- Hotels, 5/22/2008 7:57:00 AM

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces has put together the ultimate in expeditions for foodie/adventure travelers. The company’s Rediscover the Spice Route journeys showcase the rich and diverse cuisine of four South Indian states: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The journeys present a range of activities and excursions for guests to experience a real taste of India, from street food to palace gourmet cuisine. Chefs at various Taj Hotels along the way will arrange special cooking demonstrations.

A full route journey, for example, begins in Kerala with an authentic breakfast at Taj Malabar, followed by a walk through the bustling spice market. During the Tamil Nadu leg of the journey, guests can go on fascinating food trips on the streets of Chennai. Then, in Karnataka, guests can take excursions to coffee and spice plantations and have a meal at the legendary Karavalli restaurant, offering the pure and spirited flavors and traditional home-style recipes of the west coast of India. Finally, in Andhra Pradesh, guests can detect the differences between two distinct flavors—the rich Hyderabadi cuisines and the traditional Andhra fare.

Each spice route journey is fully customizable and can be combined with other Taj Holiday offers. Tours of all four states start at $4,000 per couple for a 9-night program or $7,010 per couple for a 16-night program, inclusive of all meals, accommodations and taxes.
